ITIL Software Release Management Process Maps
Background to Software Release Management and ITIL
ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library. ITIL was originally created by a UK government agency (the CCTA) and is now being adopted worldwide as the de facto standard for best practices in the provision of IT Service. See how these maps were built.
All of the ITIL process maps created in this set are based on Microsoft ITIL extension documents provided from the Microsoft Operations Foundation and the ITIL standards 2.0 and 3.0 documents. These documents are long and can be difficult to understand. Our goal in creating the process maps for the ITIL documents was to develop a systematic approach to implementing ITIL best practices. By instigating these effective and repeatable best practices, we can monitor and improve upon quality, training and technology transfer, compliance and efficiency. See licensing and pricing options.

- Release Planning: All aspects of an ITIL compliant environment including: Scoping, release definition and prioritization, planning and determining release resources, identifying training and change management needs and documenting the release plan. (Includes links to release change planning sub-process)
- Release Building: All relevant tasks for effective release building including: Selecting the mechanism, designing and building package, testing and review through deployment
- User Acceptance Testing: ITIL guided process that includes optional paths to provide small or large-scale piloting of the application to ensure that your roll out goes smoothly. An option is also provided for no piloting when required.
- Release Preparation: Every task for release preparation is included here: Assembling resources, communications plan for release to users, training sub-process for supporting staff, scheduling support for the deployment and completing a readiness review.
- Release deployment: Training of end users, deployment of release, and full review of success factors and changes in 2 connected processes.
